COMMENT
—————————————————————–
The main stories today are Autonomy’s improved performance as it
managed to sell more data management software packages to the newly
created US Department of Homeland Security. How nice to think a
British firm might be involved in that cuddly project, ‘Total
Information Awareness".
Tesco has teamed up with Cable & Wireless, Servista and Vertex
Customer Management to go head-to head with BT on providing
residential phone lines. Why?
Said Tesco: ""Because we think like a retailer, not like a utility
company, we will give customers supermarket-type offers and a simple
alternative to the lock-in contracts and complex billing systems that
they hate." Tesco has 12 million customers and analysts reckon
they’ll need a large chunk of them to make the venture worthwhile.
Vodafone issued better than expected third quarter subscriber data,
including a four million increase in customer numbers to 112.5
million.
